Understand your own retainer economics
Put the billed fee beside supplied direct delivery costs. Spot discounted retainers and low-margin client work, then review scope, resourcing and renewal terms before recommending a fee or service change.
PROFITCURA REVENUE INTELLIGENCE
Make the monthly review more useful—for your practice and your clients. Profitcura Revenue Intelligence connects billing evidence, pricing, direct margins and commercial scenarios in a workspace built for clear finance conversations.
One workspace per client. A focused data request. A report with a clear next step.
THE COST BEHIND THE RETAINER
| Client | Net billed | Direct cost | Margin |
|---|---|---|---|
| Client AFinance retainer · monthly | £1,200.00 | £600.00 | 50.00% |
| Client BFinance retainer · monthly | £1,200.00 | £1,080.00 | 10.00% |
| Client CBookkeeping retainer · monthly | £900.00 | £990.00 | -10.00% |
The same fee can hide a different result. Review Client B's delivery costs and Client C's negative direct margin.
A MORE USEFUL MONTHLY REVIEW
Put the billed fee beside supplied direct delivery costs. Spot discounted retainers and low-margin client work, then review scope, resourcing and renewal terms before recommending a fee or service change.
Use billing exports to explain revenue changes, and add recurring service detail for MRR and retention cohorts. Bring product prices, direct costs and acquisition spend only when the client's question needs them.
Name and save pricing scenarios, compare compatible evidence and export a Profitcura-branded PDF with assumptions and recommended actions. Add a report title, client name and context for the review.
FROM BILLING EVIDENCE TO THE NEXT ACTION
Keep each client's records in their own workspace. Use the evidence to frame the question, and your finance expertise to decide which action makes sense.
See the product modulesFor your practice, use the workspace to review monthly retainers: what was billed, which discounts were applied and what direct delivery costs were supplied. A retainer with a familiar headline fee can become less attractive when the scope or cost of delivery changes.
For advisory work, create a separate workspace for each client and select the industry that fits their subscriptions. Each workspace has its own records, settings and team. This is a client-by-client workflow, not an automatic cross-client portfolio benchmark or consolidated practice dashboard.
An invoice export can be a practical first step when a client cannot supply a large data pack. Start with invoice ID, date, customer ID and net amount. Use that to establish an invoice-based view, then identify the specific missing fields that would support a deeper review.
For your own retainers, direct cost totals must come from an agreed allocation or source record. Profitcura does not infer staff hours or labour costs from the fee, and direct gross profit excludes overheads and acquisition spend. State the cost basis so a client understands what the margin includes.
Connect a pricing or margin finding to a scenario rather than presenting an assumed improvement as a forecast. Test price, discount, cost and retained-volume assumptions. Save a named version and compare scenarios built on matching evidence, then bring the assumptions into the client discussion.
A branded PDF can combine current pricing insights with saved scenario comparisons, recommended review actions, benchmark references where supplied and data-coverage notes. Agree the action owner and follow-up date with the client. The product does not send the report or implement billing changes on their behalf.
AN EXAMPLE, WITH THE ASSUMPTIONS INCLUDED
In this fictional example, Client B pays £1,200.00 per month and has £1,080.00 of allocated direct delivery costs. Test a 10% fee increase alongside a separately assumed 5% reduction in those delivery costs.
Review the engagement scope, actual delivery effort and contractual fee terms. Agree which service or resourcing change could support the assumed cost reduction before presenting it as an action plan.
Fictional monthly example · GBP · tax excluded
| Monthly result | Recorded | Illustrative test |
|---|---|---|
| Net billings | £1,200.00 | £1,320.00 |
| Direct costs | £1,080.00 | £1,026.00 |
| Direct gross profit | £120.00 | £294.00 |
| Direct margin | 10.00% | 22.27% |
AssumptionsIllustrative test: the full monthly retainer is repriced by +10%, all billable volume is retained and allocated direct delivery costs fall by 5%. Cost reduction is an assumption to validate, not an efficiency gain inferred from the invoice. Tax, overheads and acquisition spend are excluded.
This is an assumed commercial test, not a customer result, forecast or guaranteed uplift.

A four-column file starts invoice-based analysis. Add the fields that support the next question, with missing coverage visible throughout the review.
For retainer practices, start with billed fees and customer IDs, then supply agreed direct delivery costs. For subscription advisory clients, add recurring classifications and supported service dates. Neither an invoice description nor a first-observed invoice proves the acquisition date.

Yes. Your own recurring retainers can support a fee and direct-cost review. For advisory engagements, use a separate workspace for each client. Industry selection shapes the fictional examples; your client's uploaded evidence determines the actual analysis.
The current product analyses supplied billing and direct-cost records. It does not infer timesheets, staff utilisation, work in progress or complete practice overheads. A direct-margin review should not be labelled as net practice profitability.
Current PDF reports carry Profitcura's logo and support a report title, client name and context notes. Uploading a practice logo and a full white-label reporting workflow are not currently offered.
Four invoice columns provide a starting point. Recurring metrics need supported service history and recurring classification; product pricing needs quantities and comparable products; margins need costs. CAC payback additionally needs allocated acquisition spend and matching cohort history. Missing information remains visible rather than being invented.
No. The examples are fictional demonstrations. Benchmark values and management targets are supplied by your team, with source and date context. The app does not currently provide a verified cross-client or industry benchmark database.
